Yes,we are under the obligation to perform Salat 5 times each day at the right time but one is excuse for missing Salat unintentionally (excuse such as sleeping) but have to make up for it as soon as he/he wakes up.
The evidence for this is one hadeeth narrated in Saheeh Muslim (681) which tells how the Prophet (SAW) and his companions slept and missed Fajr prayer, and the Sahaabah began to ask one another, “What is the expiation (kafaarah) for what we have done by neglecting the prayer?” The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) said. “Sleeping does not mean that you are neglecting the prayer. Rather neglecting the prayer means not praying one prayer until the time for the next prayer comes. Whoever does that let him pray when he remembers it.” In as much as it's okay to sleep and miss Salah doesn't mean that one should deliberately sleep when it's almost time for salat so sleep can be the excuse for missing Salat.
It's all about the intention. Quran 3:29 "Whether you hide what is in your breasts or reveal it, Allah knows it" Everyone will be rewarded or punished according to his aim and intention.
This deals with cases where we don't hear your alarm, the person that was meant to wake us up for Salat also over slept, loosing track of time cause we used a pain reliever as at the time you got back from work or school.
Let's not forget Quran;50:16-18 too "We create man, we know the prompting of his souls and are closer to him than his jugular vein, and the two recording angels are recording siting on the right and the left. Each word he utters shall be noted down by a vigilant guardian" So if one slept off deliberately or not, it's being recorded cause we are being watched.
Missing salah deliberately is a major sin. We've all been in that situation and we be like "time has gone I don't know if I should offer it" my dear offer the salat, that's Sayton tempting you. Tell Allah you are sorry and Let that be a motivation for you to even get closer to Allah. As soon as we wake up, let's not worry about the time even if it's 1am still offer that Ishai.
May Allah SWT accept all our Salat, morning, afternoon and night.
Amin
